Do you know how to be safe in school? I will tell you some of the rules we have at Tualatin Elementary. Our nice and kind principal, Mr. Kingery, teaches us to be safe, kind, and responsible. Our first rule is being safe which you all know. Following school rules keeps us safe. If there is an earthquake, we learned ways to be safe. You get under your desk and hold on tight. Our second rule is being kind. Lots of you already know how to be kind. On Tuesday I got hurt at school and people helped me. I have lots of friends that are kind to other people. Even Mr. Kingery is my friend! Finally, the last rule is being responsible in school. We always have to be responsible and make good decisions. Mr. Kingery watches when students are being kind and he chooses kids to receive a special treat. Tualatin Black Bears know how to be safe, kind, and responsible. We always do our best no matter what the test!
Have you ever heard a museum presentation? I heard a great presentation about the Kalapuya people and how they lived. I am going to tell you about the presentation and what the Kalapuya people did to survive. One thing that the Kalapuya had to do is get their own food because they didn’t have stores or anything like that. So they worked to get their food. They had to make their own stove to cook their plant bulbs. Hunting is another thing they did to get food. Actually the boys did the hunting, so they had to learn to hunt. The boys had to practice hunting and be careful. I would be really careful if I had to hunt like the Kalapuya boys! Another thing I learned is that the girls do all the planting. They make the sticks that are used to plant. They also get the plant bulbs, and that is usually what they ate. In conclusion, now you know about the Kalapuya people. Maybe one day you will hear this presentation. As you can see above, my class saw the presentation and that is why I know all about the Kalapuya.
Are you afraid of monsters or do you love them? Well let me be more specific, are you afraid of math fact monsters? I love them! After I tell you what they are, you will love them too. Let’s get started. You take a math test every Friday, and then you get to add a monster body part if you pass the test. I am almost done with my monster. We first earned the body and then earned different body parts for each number we passed. If you pass your 10’s facts, you get ten eyeballs. After everybody finishes their monsters, we will have an ice cream party. If you finish learning all your levels in time, you get toppings. As you can see, learning math is fun at my school. I liked the way my Math Monster turned out!
In our class we are earning our ice cream party. Each student earns toppings on an ice cream sundae by passing multiplication and division facts. Learning the facts is kind of hard but it is very fun! You can also pick three varieties of sprinkles, and you can have one or two scoops of ice cream. I will choose gummy bears, m&ms, and Oreo crumbles. Even if you don’t pass all of the multiplication and division, you will still have a chance to make up the tests when you are ready. And I passed them all, but I just need to retake the 5’s. Then I pass everything! I hope you will pass your multiplication and division facts and can have the big yummy dessert at our ice cream party.
Do you have P.E.? I love P.E. at my school. We have something called scooter town in PE and it is so fun! At scooter town, you can be a doctor. I was a doctor and had to help our teacher Mr. Hill. He pretended that he broke his arm and it was very funny! I had to help my friend because she pretended that she got burned. You can also be a cafe worker at scooter town. Cafe workers can sell you food. You can pretend that you work at a pizza place and it is super fun. The last thing you could be at scooter town is an uber. You can connect scooters and pretend to get a ride to your job. I loved it! In conclusion, I have told you a lot about scooter town. If you do not go to my school, you should ask your P.E. teacher if he or she can build a rock wall or build scooter town.
Do you notice anything new about Tualatin Elementary? We have a brand new rock wall this year! When you walk into our gym you see the big rock wall. We get to use the rock wall in P.E. The rock wall is kind of easy for me. The rock wall is so much fun! There is no climbing on the wall when the mats are up covering it. We have an exciting time at scooter town and at the rock wall. You can learn more about scooter town on my friend Michaela’s blog! So now you know a little bit about scooter town and the rock wall. Tualatin Elementary is the best school!
Were you in OBOB? I was. I got to go to the school championship, and even regionals! I will tell you the steps I took to get to regionals. The first step to regionals is being a V.I.P. There is a certain “battle day” day where during the day, third grade to fifth grade teams are pulled out to battle. At the end of the day, the two top teams with the highest scores go up to the school championship. I couldn’t believe my ears. My team (The Fire Breathing Puppies) were announced! The second step (this step is exclusive) is the school tournament. I was battling a fifth grade team called Black Magic. In the end, my team lost fifteen to forty. The other team got a lot of questions that I also knew. After the school tournament, I took a qualification test. I passed, and I got on the regionals team.
My teammates were Cordie, Addison, Alex, and Ben. We battled regional teams from two schools. Our final score was seventy-five. We did not make it into the state championship. I told you about the steps I did to get to regionals. I hope you will get to regionals too, next year.
