In music class we made a music video. We have made three other music videos in other years. The music in our new video is by Meghan Trainor. Instead of her words, “Better When I’m Dancin,’” the new video song is “Better With Some Kindness.” Every class at our school was in the music video! Mrs. Hinkle taught us the moves for the dance. Each class had to learn a different dance. Miss LePore helped with the choreography. Mrs. Heath’s class was one of the last classes to be filmed. We had so much fun dancing together outside. Go check out all the cool music videos Mrs. Hinkle has made with us! Here is the link to ”Better With Some Kindness.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBN0Tczouyo
Do you like making music? We use really cool instruments here at Tualatin Elementary. Our teacher that teaches us music is called Mrs. Hinkle. One instrument we use in her class is called the marimba. What I like about the marimba is that they have low notes and high notes. One marimba is so tall that we have to stand on a step to play it. The other marimbas are small like the students. Another instrument we have in music is the xylophone. They are small so we have to sit on a chair to play it. Some of the other xylophones are a little bit bigger than the rest. They almost look like marimbas but in a small way. The piano is also used in music class. Mrs. Hinkle tells us that we have to play the songs so we can pass our piano tests. There are all kinds of different levels. I am playing a song called “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring.” We are lucky to have all these instruments at school. I can’t wait to play the recorder when I’m a fourth grader!
Do you like to paint? I do! I was excited to paint our final Art Literacy project this year. We learned about the artist named Wassily Kandinsky and his painting The Study of Abstract Squares. We used oil pastels to draw the circles. Then we painted the background squares with watercolor paints. It’s funny because we painted circles and they are called abstract squares. We displayed our art in the gym at STREAM night. My Kandinsky painting was chosen to be on our class poster.
Do you like sports? We play sports in P.E. and at recess. I also play on a baseball team after school. In P.E., our class has played kickball, tennis, and volleyball. You never know what fun sport or activity Mr. Hill is planning to do next! At recess I like to play soccer. Right now we have a championship game which will go into next week. The players on my soccer team are Anthony, Alex, Nico, and Anders. The players on the other team are Danny, Axel, Connor, Alexander, and Spencer. After school I usually have baseball practice or a game. We won our game yesterday and the score was 19 to 9! In conclusion, now you know all about sports at school. What sports do you like to play? My favorites are soccer, baseball, and basketball.
There is a new TEAF class that just started this year! It is called Black Bear TV (BBTV) and only 4th and 5th graders can sign up for it. I’m so excited to sign up for it next year!
BBTV is a TEAF class that makes YouTube videos about up-to-date news about our school. There are really cool things that the student reporters do. They tell the school about our weather, and they make book reports. They even interview the kids from our school. When they interview kids they either do a normal interview, or they ask people if they like one thing or the other. You can explain the reason for your choice if you get interviewed to choose one thing or the other.
Sometimes BBTV even interviews teachers, and you can learn cool things about the teachers. Even if you think you already know all about the teachers at our school, I bet you a million dollars you will still learn something new about them by watching BBTV! Be sure to check out Black Bear TV. I’m sure you’ll love it! And if you don’t know where to find it, here is the link:
Do you like to dance? I am in the after school TEAF Hip-Hop Dance class. It is very fun! Miss LePore is our teacher. She is very flexible! She teaches us new tricks about Hip-Hop. If you have never done Hip-Hop, then you will learn how it's done. We have 31 students in our class. Six students are boys and the rest are girls. Plus the girls are more flexible than the boys. But I don’t know why. People in Hip-Hop are nice. I feel happy to be in there and learn some new dance moves. We have a talent show that I am excited to be in. Now you know all about Hip-Hop Dance. I hope you can come to our Talent Show and have a good time. Bye!
Have you ever gone to Reading Groups with Miss McConnell? It is the best and if you want to know why then you should read this blog. One reason that I like Reading Groups is because Miss McConnell is my teacher. She is really nice to all the students and likes to talk to us. Miss McConnell is kind and has a good sense of humor. Another reason Reading Groups is fun is that we read lots of good stories in class. Miss McConnell has many good books to choose from. I like to read biographies about famous people. One last reason that I like Reading Groups is that if you get 25 reading points than you get free computer time! You can play fun games on the website ABCya. See, I bet that all you kids who are reading this right now want to be in Miss McConnell’s awesome Reading Group!
In an earlier blog this year you heard about the previous TEAF classes I did. This month my TEAF classes are chess club and gardening. Today I am going to write about chess club. In chess club you learn the rules for playing chess. I have never played chess before. In chess there are two players. One side is black and one side is white. Certain pieces can only move certain ways. At our first meeting, Joseph and I battled. Of course he won because he has played chess a lot! I was just learning how to play chess. He got six of my guys and I got four of his pieces. As you can see, I think chess club is fun. Maybe you would like to try it out? I think you will like it!
Do you go to Tualatin Elementary? If you do, than you know that we have Music, P.E., and S.T.E.M. classes. If you are a third, fourth or fifth grader, you might play a game of music note basketball in Music class. It is pretty easy to play if you are in third grade. The answers are on the board but in a different way than you are supposed say it. Also, you get points when you get them correct. You add the points up at the end. Whichever team gets the most points is the winner of that class. The winner of music note basketball for third grade gets a treat. If fourth grade wins, they get an ice cream party. If fifth grade wins, they get to have an extra recess. Now you know how to play music note basketball, and I hope you do well if you play it. By the way, the real game is on Thursday, May 11, 2017!
Have you ever been tested at school? Well we are doing the test right now! The test is a little hard, but we can finish it! This week we are doing the math CAT in school. Every day we do 10 questions for 20 or 30 minutes. There are 36 questions in all on the test. First, we get our blue folders and our green cards and sign onto the test. Right now I am on question 20. Tomorrow we are going to do another 10. Mrs. Heath gives us mints during testing so we can concentrate. In conclusion, I think that you will maybe do a good job on your test! Good Luck!
